This is interesting for me because sometime back we had a family member who was a city council in the metro Atlanta area and redistricting was in the works, so I got to see for myself just how complicated this could be. You see in the south we are still under federal laws that basically mandate that if a black politician is elected they have to make it so that they get reelected by redistricting all the majority-black areas into their district. The map they ended up with was insane because they had to abide by this law. It really shocked me that we were still bound by this law from the Jim Crow time. Fun fact Dems were in charge of the south during the Civil War and Jim Crow. Even after the south created "Dixiecrats" because they refused to be associated with the Republican party probably because of reconstruction and the animosity between the north and south that was still prevalent during my childhood, they were still a thing when I was growing up and I was born in the early 70s.
Just interesting things you might not realize unless you live in an area, because politics has taken over everything.
